1. Introduction

Why do identical filter presses perform so differently — some feeding fast and steady, while others struggle with slow filling, wet cakes, and pumps that fail far too often? The problem usually lies not with the filter press itself, but with its "artery" — the feed pump. As the first stage of solid-liquid separation, the flow, pressure and stability of the feeding process directly determine the efficiency of the entire dewatering line.

The PPL Series hydraulic ceramic plunger pump by HOT Industries is a new generation of intelligent feed pump built precisely to solve this problem: high flow at low pressure for rapid filling, high pressure at low flow for the final squeeze, and overflow-free operation throughout — one pump for the entire filter press cycle.

• Working principle: the electric motor drives a hydraulic power pack; high- and low-pressure relief valves together with directional control actuate the high-purity ceramic plungers in reciprocating motion. A crosshead–column–slide frame structure keeps the movement stable, while the water gland and surge dampener absorb pulsation — delivering continuous, stable, high-pressure slurry transport.

• Wear and corrosion resistance: plungers are sintered from high-purity alumina ceramic and precision ground — high hardness, low surface roughness, and no shear motion against the medium. Field statistics show core ceramic components lasting 10–15 years.

2. Staged Pressure Control — A Feeding Curve That Matches Your Dewatering Process

Breaking with conventional design, the PPL Series adopts staged pressure control, keeping flow and pressure aligned with the filter press dewatering curve at every stage:

• High flow at low pressure — rapid filling: in the initial stage, high flow fills the chambers quickly and shortens each cycle time.

• High pressure at low flow — squeeze and dewater: as the cake forms and pressure rises, the pump automatically shifts to high-pressure, low-flow squeezing — drier cakes, more complete dewatering.

• Automatic transition, overflow-free operation: the pump switches stages automatically in response to feed-line pressure. Paired with an overflow-free hydraulic system, no kilowatt-hour is wasted and no minute runs idle.

4. Key Advantages

  • Stable high-pressure output: pressure remains stable and pulse-free across the entire flow range, matching high-pressure press feeding and long-distance pipeline transport.

  • Lower energy consumption: the overflow-free hydraulic system with high volumetric efficiency cuts electricity use by 30%–50% versus slurry pumps under the same duty.

  • Longer service life: mean time between failures of 8,000–15,000 h — 3 to 8 times that of ordinary metal pumps.

  • Corrosion-resistant, leak-resistant: ceramic components withstand strong acids, alkalis and organic solvents as well as particle abrasion, with no risk of metallic contamination; the sealed structure minimizes slurry leakage.

  • Simple maintenance: wear parts are limited to valve plates and plunger seals — quick to replace, with annual maintenance cost roughly one fifth of that of a slurry pump.

  • Compact footprint, retrofit-friendly: suitable for confined installations and in-situ upgrades of existing filter press lines.

  • Solids handling: feed slurry with 25%–65% solids content; optimum 45%–60% for coal washing tailings.
